Posted Rate of Pay: $18.05/hour

Pre-employment Screening Requirements

 

The Tohono O’odham Ki:Ki Association conducts pre-employment screening for all positions, which may include a criminal background check, verification of credentials, licenses, certifications, and work history.  In addition, a check of names and identification documents is conducted on all new employees to ensure they are legally authorized to work in the United States.  All employees are required to successfully pass a drug screening test prior to employment; random drug screening tests may be administered post-employment.

 

Summary:

Under the direction of the Recreation Operations Manager & Lead Fitness Instructor, the Recreation Specialist will lead and oversee the activities of the Hanam Ke:k Recreation and Fitness center; will help participants and ensures a safe environment in order to increase the health and wellness of all participants.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and facilitates recreational programs for youth, adult and elderly participants.
  • Supervises children in both organized and informal play groups.
  • Creates flyers, files, registration forms, permission slips, and other documents and materials for recreational programs; develops monthly calendar of events.
  • Promotes safety rules and regulations.
  • Provides assistance to children/students in the after-school programs, assisting with homework, reading and special activities.
  • Cleans restrooms, hallways, gym area and offices of the recreation facility; empties trash and cleans outside the building.
  • Back-up to Receptionist, answers phones, and disseminates information.
  • Promotes aquatics and recreational activities by providing information and education regarding programs services to all participants.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety procedures for all participants.
  • Help maintain discipline among program participation.
  • Maintain privileged confidential information.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and various work schedules, including weekend hours.
  • Provide first aide for minor injuries, report accidents and injuries to supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and any combination of experience and training equivalent to six (6) months of successful experience in a recreation program.
  • Skill and knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint among other database software programs.
  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of recreational activities.
  • Ability to plan, assign and assist in supervision of activities.
  • Ability to maintain discipline in parks and recreation area.
  • Ability to understand and follow routine and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and various work schedules, including weekend hours.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Active/Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months after date of hire.
  • Required to pass a background check.
  • Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O’odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of arts, crafts, sports and recreation activities suitable for O’odham youth.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
